19 Simple Things That You Can Do Better With Minimum Extra Effort

We do so many little things in our everyday lives that really don’t seem like they are going to matter in the big picture. Maybe they don’t, but you can definitely make some simple changes in your methods to do them the RIGHT way and to give yourself sweeter results!

Here’s a list of tips and tricks that will help make your life just a teeny weeny better.

1. Microwave Your Choco Pies

I’ve always been of the opinion that chocolate desserts (brownies, even cakes) are so much more enjoyable when they are slightly warm. The same goes for Marshmallows. Which is why it comes as no shock to me that heating up choco pies in the microwave will make it puffy, oozy, and delicious!

2. The Hand Mixer Trick

If you’ve ever used a hand mixer, you’ve probably experienced the dreaded “splashage”. Well, one way around this mess is to put a paper plate on the beaters, which will act as sort of a makeshift umbrella/cover which prevents this problem.

3. Chocolate Shavings

If you ever want to make a dessert look just a little fancy, all you need to do is sprinkle a bit of chocolate shavings on top. And the easiest way to get picture-worthy chocolate shavings is to use a potato peeler on a cold bar of chocolate!

4. Make Your Leafy Greens Last Longer

Rinse your salad leaves, pat them dry, and store them sandwiched between paper napkins. This trick will keep them fresher for twice as long as they would normally.

5. Cracking a Coconut

If you’re unsure of how to crack a coconut, here’s an easy trick. Place a hole in the coconut and drain the liquid. Then place it in a 400°F oven for about 15 minutes. Once you get it out, you’ll see that the coconut has cracked automatically, all you have to do is pry it open!

6. Rub, Don’t Wash

When preparing mushrooms for cooking, many of us tend to wash them under running water. But experts suggest that rubbing with a brush and using a wet towel is a much better way to do the job.

7. Storing Bananas

When storing bananas, separate them from the bunch and wrap each “tail” in plastic wrap and put them in the fridge. They’ll last for a long, long time!

8. Make Cereal Crunchy Again

If your opened box of cereal has gone soft and stale, you can make it crunchy again by placing it in a hot oven for about 5-10 minutes. This trick also works with potato chips, crackers, and more!

9. Cleaning Greasy Pans

If you’re looking to get around hours of scrubbing and soaping dirty pots and pans, and easy solution is to place them in boiling water with a small amount of vinegar. It’ll save you a lot of time and effort!

10. Cheeseburger

When making cheeseburgers at home, don’t rush to put the cheese on. Wait until the meat is fully cooked, put the cheese on top, splash the pan with a bit of water and close the entire thing with the lid. The steam coming from the water hitting the hot pan will melt the cheese quickly.

11. Use Every Bit Of It

If you’ve gotten to the end of a bottle of jam, chocolate spread, peanut butter – you name it – you know how frustrating it is to get the final bits all out. A good trick is to add some slightly warm milk in and give it a good shake. Voila – you’ve got flavored milk to use on cereal, milkshakes, smoothies, or as your heart desires!

12. No More Tears!

Everyone cries while cutting onions, but with this simple trick, you won’t have to anymore. Just sprinkle the cutting board with a bit of lemon beforehand, don’t ask us why it works – it just does!

13. Burnt Cookies

If you’ve accidentally overbaked your cookies, they don’t have to be thrown away. You can use a grater to scrape away at the burnt bits – no one will be the wiser!

14. Snack Bag-Bowl

When opening a bag of snacks, you don’t have to dirty up another bowl. Just cut the front of the bag with scissors and remove the front flap to make it into a makeshift disposable bowl!

15. Crack Those Pistachios

If you ever eaten pistachios in their shell, you know how hard it is to crack them open at times. I’ve almost lost a nail (and a tooth) to one of the more notorious ones. But fret not, we’ve got a simple trick: use a half shell of a previously opened pistachio to pry others open, easy!

16. Canned Soda

Research has found that the top of all beverage cans contains copious amounts of bacteria and germs. And if you think about it, it makes a lot of sense! You can avoid any contamination by drinking you soda with the use of a trusty straw.

17. Ice Cream Hack

Scooping up frozen ice cream can be hard, and if you’re trying to make ice cream sandwiches, it can be hard and messy. To get around this, you can just cut the it with a knife, package and all. Simply peel it away and serve as is or between delicious cookies. You can store the leftovers wrapped in plastic wrap.

18. Appropriate Toothpaste Usage

Many of us tend to think the more toothpaste we use, the better. But studies have shown that too much toothpaste can actually end up damaging your teeth. To get the best results, use only a pea-sized amount.
